The
piper can play as requested by the family.
This can be as many or as few times as
required - either one tune at a specific
point in the proceedings, or at different
times during the day. They can include any
or all of the following:
Before the
service - to welcome mourners to
the place of service
To lead the
hearse to the place of service -
the piper can march in front of the
cortege while piping
To pipe on
entry to the place of service - the
piper can pipe outside or, in contrast,
to lead in to the service as the coffin
is carried in
During the
service - the piper can play as
directed such as at a point of
reflection or at the
committal
At the end
of the service - the piper can play
as mourners exit or wait until mourners
have left the building and then play a
tune or selection of tunes
To lead to
the graveside - the piper can pipe
down to the grave
After the
burial service - the piper can play
a lament or other tune as mourners
gather their thoughts following the
burial.
